ERR Breakfast Run Results

As usual, thanks to everyone who helped out today with marshalling, timekeeping and organising, and of course all those who took part. The results are below, long race first. Two things to bear in mind are that as this was the last championship race of the year, jokers are played automatically if they haven't been played before, and you need to be in club colours to score any points (although maybe we should adopt Rain's top as club colours in future).

Robert's LegRobert's leg, afterwards.         Race report (by Graham). ‘Have you done the maths?’, I asked. ‘I have’, he replied. Nothing further was said. We both knew the time for talking was long gone. Ok, so it wasn’t quite like that, and the start of the breakfast run didn’t sound like a scene from The Godfather. Instead it more a case of establishing who was the more injured (Robert), who had taken the most painkillers (Robert), and then who could run fastest (err… Robert). Also, it turned out that he hadn’t done the maths, and that my 2nd place was enough to stop me from going on about a certain other 2nd place ever again. Elsewhere, Marie showed the benefits of all those early morning climbs of Tumbledown Dick by winning the ladies’ long race ahead of a fast finishing Tess, whose 50 points plus joker were enough for her to clinch 3rd place in the ladies’ long league. Matt Ray turned up fashionably late (the student lifestyle already showing through), but still managed to blow the field away in the short race, while Tara completed an almost perfect record for the year by being the first lady home. Perhaps more importantly than all that, the breakfast at the new venue of the Jolly Sportsman was very well received. Some might even think that was the main reason why so many people turned up…  ...

Oxfordshire Cross Country League: Race 1 Ascott-under-Wychwood

An uncharacteristically warm day (c. 20˚C) greeted the 31 Eynsham participants at the first cross country race of the season, allowing some of us to even enjoy a pub lunch outside in the sun afterwards. Many thanks to Witney Roadrunners for hosting this event (they hosted the race, not the pub lunch!) Congratulations to Hannah Hale for finishing a strong 7th overall in the Women’s race (3rd Senior); Jacky Pinnock (3rd V55); Mark Baker (21st place) bringing the Eynsham Men home; Tom Binnie and Henry Hart for very solid debuts, with Lee Hillsdon grabbing the 7th spot in the Men’s A team. It was great to see so many familiar faces and ‘well done’ to everyone who took part, especially the nine entrants debuting as Eynsham XC runners: Arthur and George Walker, Kate Welsby, Tom Binnie, Henry Hart, Peter Green, Bob Newby, Nick Hardwick and Colin Hancox. Follow the link below for the official results...
http://www.oxonxc.org.uk/index.php?view=results ... and thanks to Barry Cornelius once again for the photos which can be found here: http://www.oxonraces.com/…/2015-11-01-ascott-under-wychwood/
In the team events, both the Women (6th in Div. 2) and the Men (6th in Div. 1) were unfortunately somewhat hampered by the absence of potential A and B team personnel, due to injury, illness, half-term, working on a Sunday (eh?), holidays, hangovers (apparently), lie-ins (?) … and so one might conclude that the opening race of the season was an averagely steady one, rather than anything notable, from that perspective. The ERR XC Championship handicap results will be issued separately in due course. One amendment to this year's competition is that the committee has agreed to allow four out of five races to count (instead of last year's 5/5). Those absent from Ascott still now have a good chance of winning, and those runners who do run all five races will be able to drop their weakest race (we all have one!). Special commemorative engraved medals to honour XC commitment across the season will remain eligible only to those running all five races. So do please support the club and commit to your team-mates by making yourselves available on Sundays to run Race 2 at Culham on December 6th,  Race 3, the County Championships at Horspath (Oxford) on January 10th , Cirencester Park on February 7th and the finale at Harwell on March 6th ... let's really further the momentum we have all created so well these last few years. Benedict Pollard (Men’s XC Capt.)

Abingdon & Amsterdam Marathon Results

It was a successful 'Marathon Sunday' yesterday, with 11 Eynsham runners tackling the testing 26.2 mile distance: nine at Abingdon and two at Amsterdam. Well done to all who took part, notably Colin Hancox and Adam Clilverd on debut, the six runners who achieved excellent PBs: Dave Ferrier, Chris Williams, Becky Evins, Charmian Maskell, with Lee Hillsdon wiping a massive 20 mins off his previous best, whilst I have been instructed by others to ensure I make mention of my own PB, and sub-3-hour finish! As ever, the grateful runners were well-cheered at Abingdon by several supporting club members. Special mention also to Marisa and Ian Keeley, Mark Schofield, Simon Taylor and 'any others' (please let me know who you are) for cheerfully marshalling the event. The Men's team still wait to hear whether we finished winners or runner's up in the Oxon County Marathon Championships ... another fine performance, either way.

The Club Championship Long League Marathon Points for the year is now as follows: Robert Storey 50+1; Arthur McEwan-James 49+1; Lee Hillsdon 48+1; Graham Bridges 47+1; Steve Butler 46+1. The tables will be updated in due course, as the season draws towards a close finish ... All eyes now on the new cross-country season, starting on Sunday November 1st. Let's have a really good turnout for the opener ... come and join the rewarding team-bonding experience (with free cake and mud usually provided too). If you're not quite sure about actually running but are available to marshal and cheer us all on, it would be a tremendous help. We need to provide just two marshals, so book your ticket with Jacky Pinnock or myself pronto, before they're snapped up! Benedict Pollard...

Oxford Half Marathon Results

Some incredible performances by a sizeable ERR turnout. So sizeable, in fact, that I may well have missed a few, or given credit to some people who weren't actually there. Any corrections/additions, please let me know. The Club Championship and Short League tables will be updated once the results have been 'verified'.

Woodstock 12 results

Well done to the ten brave souls who ran the tough Woodstock 12 last Sunday (September 27th) ... it was quite hot and very hilly, but it is a lovely scenic route. Congrats to Mark Baker for being judged to have finished 0.01mm ahead of Ben Pollard, and finishing as 3rd Senior Man in the process. A good run from Simon Walker saw him count as 3rd man of 4 for the Grand Prix team, and well done to Kate for winning the Kate award (1st LV65). parkruns … Saturday 26th September

Saturday September 26th 11 ERR entrants ran at four different venues (a first?). Cotswold Classic (Witney 10) Results

When Robert is our 5th person home in a race it tells you 2 things, namely that he's not quite at his best, and we have some pretty fast runners these days. Having said that, it was still good enough to set a club MV50 record for 10 miles, so well done to him, as well as Mark, Kate and Jacky for winning their categories, and our speed merchants who finished around the hour mark. As and when the County Championship prizes are awarded, we'll add them. ...
