2016 Handicap Race Results

Thanks to everyone who helped out in any way, as well as all 48 adults who ran, and Fraser and Jess our junior winners. Well done to all the category winners (shown in italics), and of course to Tristan, a deserved and decisive overall winner. If you have no plus or minus figure, that means you had no handicap time, which in turn means I had no previous times to go on. Think of it as setting a time for next year.

Chiltern Chase Results

Where to start? Probably with Mark's overall victory (his 2nd win in 3 10k races - not a bad strike rate), but also to Mark C for winning the V60 prize, to Howard for his pb and to Tristan for taking another chunk out of his. Hannah was few seconds away from taking the ladies' prize, while Benedict missed out on the MV40 award by a similarly small margin. Mark B, Benedict and myself took the overall team prize, while Hannah, Carly (in a very impressive ERR debut) and Jacky were 3rd in the same competition. Not sure why there wasn't a separate ladies' team competition, but there you are. Finally, thanks to Al for telling the announcer about our 30th anniversary and then having the 'pleasure' of being interviewed over the PA. He won't be doing that again... If any jokers were played, let me know.

A fairly modest ERR turnout at Bletchingdon, perhaps everyone was still full of cake and fizz from the night before. Well done to Hannah for leading us home and finishing as 2nd SL. Any jokers, or belated Short League entries, please let me know.

Chalgrove 10k Results

Great to see so many ERR folk at this friendly but surprisingly challenging event. Well done to Hannah for emulating Denise's feat the last time we were here by winning the ladies prize, and well done to Kate for her LV55 victory. Kate Welsby was not in club colours (there's a perfectly good explanation), so no points and the jobsworth hat for me. As ever, if there were any other jokers or PBs, please let me know.

White Horse Half Marathon Results

Well done to the various ERR folk who took full advantage of slightly friendlier conditions than last year to win category prizes and/or set PBs. If I've missed any PBs, please let me know. I haven't put any points down for those people in the Short League, as obviously these will change during the year. However, the current state of play is shown in the updated tables.

Maidenhead 10m Results

A pretty small ERR turnout at Maidenhead, which again meant it was a good day to play your joker if you hadn't done before. Good to see Ben back in club colours for the first time in a few years, even if he didn't claim to enjoy it (not the last few miles, anyway). Due to a strange system of prize-giving, Kate was 2nd LV60 but didn't actually win an award for this. However, there was the slight compensation of setting a new UK Ladies Vet 70 record for 10 miles - well done Queenie. Ben won the wine, and his report follows the results.

I'm going to try my best to make this run sound exciting, but for those who have run it previously - you will understand the challenge I face. Anyway here goes.
A beautiful sunny morning welcomed over 800 elite runners to the idyllic location of Maidenhead Business Park. There was a sense of excitement in the air as the group of seven Eynsham Roadrunners discussed race strategies and target times before making the short walk to the start line.
The race started with two laps of the stunning business park, taking in landmarks such as a large car park, numerous speed bumps (of varying sizes) and a tree. The organisers were really looking after the runners with 3 water stops before the 4 mile marker and as we left the business park there was a feeling of anticipation as to what the rest of the route would bring.
The terrain was challenging as we ran not only on roads and paths, but also at one stage - on a cycle way. As the mile markers got higher - the day was getting hotter, the water stops less frequent and the pace slowed (at least for me) as runners struggled to deal with the elements. As we returned towards the business park, both supporters were still offering encouragement to the runners, who were given one final treat....another lap of the business park. That just left the glorious final sprint to the line.
In all seriousness, that was a bit harsh - it was a well organised event run over a fast flat course with encouraging marshals, decent facilities and excellent post-race bacon rolls. Well done to everyone who ran, particularly to Kate for her national record.

Heyford 10k Results

Some excellent performances at a flat but cold Heyford Airbase. First mention should naturally go to the first finisher, i.e. Mark who won by well over a minute. Also notable were Jacky, Jane and me (I suppose) for winning their categories, as well as Colin for beating his PB by 6 minutes, and Jane (again) for beating her PB by 4 minutes. With a relatively low ERR turnout, it was something of a PB-fest, so let me know if I missed yours. Although it wasn't in the Short League, let's also mention Sheila Gascoigne for finishing 1st LV60 in a time of 26.47
